Duties of the role :
Visitor Management :-
** Manage a small team of staff at different locations.
** Produce interpretive materials, such as signs, brochures, flyers, and banners, for the Northern Region.
** Review and update webpages.
** Coordinate, manage and assist with volunteer initiatives and agreements e.g. campground host programs, Friends of Parks, Nature Kids programs, Cairns Visitor Information Centre.
** Address customer service enquiries either by phone, email or in person.
** Liaise with and distribute interpretive material to Visitor Information Centres in the Northern Region.
** Assist and identify recreational development opportunities and establish capacities for visited areas.
** Coordinate and manage closures or access restrictions to parks, including associated park alerts.
** Administer Group Activity Notifications and approve school group and commercial tour operator bookings.
** Analyse camping trends and produce reports related to visitor management.
** Contribute to the Northern Region visitor management strategy.
** Coordinate and organise NPRSR involvement at public events e.g. Cairns Camping and Caravanning Show.

6. Technical/Knowledge—Strong knowledge and understanding of the principles of conservation and natural resource management as they relate to workplace health and safety, compliance and emergency response. Understands and applies policies and procedures to meet human resource and financial management standards. Understands a range of basic level trade skills with the ability to safely undertake general construction, repairs, and maintenance (where a tradesperson is not required). Applies administrative skills including record-keeping, reporting, using computer applications and equipment relevant to the job.

Rangers protect, present and ensure the sustainable use of Queensland’s national parks, state forests and reserves. This role focuses on the planning and management of visitor-related issues in Far North Queensland. Primarily office-based, this position supervises a small team that provides support to field-based staff, commercial tour operators, volunteer organisations and the public. It will be important for the holder of this position to think strategically, have a good knowledge of visitor management principles and practices, have excellent organisation and communication skills and enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Interaction with the tourism industry is an integral part of the role.
